Hairpin clay cutter. Make hairpin toppers with the cutter and decorate pins as you wish.

Hair pin clay cutter. Traditional pins are a bit boring. Making them yourself gives you a lot of variety. With this cutter, you can decorate different sizes of pins easily. Measure the pin and choose the right size cutter. Roll out the clay sheet to the right thickness, the pictures show a 2 mm thick sheet, but thinner is fine too. Remember to soften the clay properly so that the finished product does not crack when bent. You can use texture rollers to make pins different. In these examples I used nahka-kuviorullaa.

You can harden the surface decorations over the metallic hairpin, which will harden it into a curved shape. Or you can make a suitable curved sheet of foil, for example, by layering a few layers of foil and shaping it over a blank roll of kitchen paper. This way you can cure several surfaces at once!

The cutter needs a little more pressure than a metal cutter. The cutting edges will be sharp and precise. You can also use cling film or a piece of plastic bag in between the cutter and the polymer clay, if you want rounder edges.

For a short article on using a PLA polymer clay cutter, see the blog:

The polymer clay cutters are printed in Finland, from plant-based, biodegradable plastic. The cutter must not be heated or put in the oven. The cutter starts to soften at around 60 degrees Celsius.

Clean the cutter after use, wipe off any visible clay.
